How to Collect Scrap in Shelldiver: Materials Guide

Learn how to collect scrap in Shelldiver, plus crystals, mushrooms and obsidian. Use the plasma tool, read the result line and keep more of your haul.

Before you start

Select the Plasma Gun, aim its beam at a resource deposit and return to the submarine before your oxygen runs out. On the expedition result, read the named line to confirm whether you collected scrap or another material.

How to collect scrap with the Plasma Gun

After the opening jellyfish sale, the recorded player unlocks the Plasma Gun and uses its beam on scrap. Select that resource tool, aim at a resource deposit and keep the beam on the target until it breaks apart. Then return to the submarine and check the named expedition-result line. Jellyfish sales produce shells; resource collection supplies separate balances for skill costs.

  1. Unlock and select the Plasma Gun resource tool.
  2. Aim its beam at a resource deposit until the cluster breaks apart.
  3. Return to the submarine before oxygen runs out.
  4. Read the named result line to confirm the material collected.

Read the named result line

The expedition result names what was collected. The opening resource run lists scrap, a later glacial run lists crystals, and a volcanic run lists obsidians. Do not relabel every resource as scrap just because the first tool tutorial uses scrap.

Use both the icon and the amount

A Store Speed III level shows a red crystal cost of 20. Shell Insurance II instead shows a shell cost of 7,500. These costs belong to different currencies, so compare each with its matching balance.

Missing air can affect the material you keep

The Shell Insurance II tooltip explicitly reduces losses of jellyfish and resources when asphyxiating. Its shown preview changes the loss value from 70% to 45%. That is a displayed upgrade effect, not a controlled test of the final retained amount.

Collect mushrooms in the Swamp Waters example

Select Swamp Waters 700 m and confirm the trip. The arrival header names the same destination. Among the green walls are blue-and-yellow resource clusters, visually distinct from the nearby pink jellyfish. Select the plasma resource tool and aim its beam at a cluster.

The continuous sequence shows the nearby cluster breaking into pieces during firing. The blue resource balance subsequently increases. Keep that action separate from the bubble-gun attempt later in the same trip; the two tools are selected at different times.

Verify the named mushroom result after return

Return to the submarine area and end the expedition. At the settled result, Mushrooms Collected reads +160, while Jellyfishes Collected separately reads +1. The village resource balance is also 160 after return.

Use the named line to identify the material you kept. The 160 belongs to this whole trip, not one mushroom cluster or a guaranteed yield. Do not relabel it as scrap or treat the separate jellyfish count as another resource amount.

Expedition End clearly reads Jellyfishes Collected plus 1 and Mushrooms Collected plus 160
The settled result names Mushrooms Collected +160 and separately records Jellyfishes Collected +1. These are this expedition’s totals, not a fixed yield per cluster or per shot. · Image sourceOpen full-size image
